Medina Youth Lacrosse Association is a not-for-profit community based all volunteer scholastic sports organization.
It is the mission of MYLA to inspire the community of Medina, Ohio to be lifelong fans and enthusiastic supporters of the sport of lacrosse.
Irregardless of performance level or continuation in high school or beyond, engaged youth players and members become fans, coaches, refs, boosters, and parents who encourage and support the next generation of lacrosse players.
The word “fan” originates from the Modern Latin fanaticus, meaning as much as “insanely but divinely inspired”.
Honor - conducting ourselves with integrity. Playing by the rules, showing respect for teammates, opponents, and officials. It is the foundation of desirable abilities such as leading and collaborating with others, respectful discourse, and magnanimity.
Effort - investment of self is the true measure of success. Performance and results eventually come, but being someone ready to put in the work means you've already won. Making the connection between effort and reward is a critical life skill.
Resilience - adapt to adversity, accept mistakes, and recover quickly. Own it, wipe it off, move on. Youth who develop resilience as a daily character trait see failure as an opportunity, are better able to regulate emotion, and are prepared for the ups and downs of life.
Encourage players and members to love the game of lacrosse
Teach the game of lacrosse in a manner that enables every player to achieve their desired skill level
Teach life lessons (honor, effort, resilience, teamwork and respect) through sports
Instill a competitive spirit in every player. Other objectives take precedence, but winning matters and learning to win with honor and lose with grace is a life skill.
CULTURE (HOW WE DO THINGS HERE)
Consistent, sustainable, high quality, high value programs that appeal to all Medina athletes - new players, casual players, elite players.
Reduce coach complexity and workload that allows coaches to focus on players, team, and game.
A member driven and responsive culture of enthusiasm, positivity, hard work, and fun.
Maximum playing time philosophy.
A high number of experienced players is a team's best asset.
Experience only comes with time on the field.
MYLA coaches are comfortable with the outcome of the game being in the hands of the players on the field and value experience of players over win/loss record.
Provide opportunities to grow in variety of positions and situations.
